Stop Africa Land Grabs Petition

June 25, 2013

stop-africa-land-grab-logo-smThe Stop Africa Land Grabs coalition has developed a petition outlining thirteen principles which should govern land transfers. Among the key provisions are requirements that land sales or leases be subject to the consent of the immediate inhabitants of the land and the people of the country, and the use of the land must benefit of the people (for example, by ensuring that land managers are African, that a portion of the crops grown on the land are destined for local consumption, and that the majority of the workforce be Africans employed at living wages.

Have a look at their statement of principles and consider signing the petition if you’re interested.
