GMO Labeling: Whole Foods Takes the Plunge
Whole Foods yesterday became the first national grocery store to announce they would require all products containing genetically modified organisms sold in their store to be labeled. The new requirement would come into effect in 2018. The move comes amid a growing movement to label GM foods and polling data which suggest the vast majority of Americans favor such requirements.
The victory of the anti-labeling lobby in their effort last November to defeat California’s Proposition 37, which would have mandated labeling of food products containing genetically modified ingredients, appears to have intensified the national consumer movement in favor of such labels.
